Aloha ELS ‘Ohana,

Weekly Recap

Believe it or not, this was our 1st 5 day week in the month of October.  I can’t believe it will be November when we return on Monday.  This week I stopped into all the classrooms for a weekly check in.  In preschool, I got a few high fives and hugs at snack time.  In kindergarten I saw students being great listeners with volunteers in class for centers.  1st graders were identifying things that come in pairs.  2nd graders were fully focused while they worked on Prodigy Math.  3rd graders were not in the room when I stopped by because they were all working hard in PE.  4th graders were demonstrating mastery with their times tables.  5th graders were doing my favorite task from elementary school, diagraming compound sentences.  6th graders explained the difference between temperature and thermal energy.  7th graders were taking their Chapter 4 math tests.  Last but not least, 8th graders were feverishly writing essays for their Chapter 17 History Test.

The Plant Sale (along with the entire Fall Festival) was a great success.  Rhonda wanted to give a special shout out to those who spent time bringing that together.  We will have a link for purchasing the left over Fall Wreaths next week.

Student Council

Emmanuel will have a student council for the 1st time. The following students were selected based on their application essays.  The Student Council will meet bi-monthly beginning in November.  Thank you to Ms. Jordynn and Mr. Jurchen for helping to lead this new organization.

President - Evie Nakamura

Vice President - Adam Dahlgren

Secretary - Sophia Fletcher

7th Representative - Rylee Ortogero

6th Grade Representatives - Keala Withers and Ellyn Tamparong

Lunches

Starting in the month of November, absolutely no late lunch orders will be accepted.  We have run into multiple issues when lunch orders have been called in the night before and even the day of service. We would like to be more mindful of the time and effort Simply Local puts into our daily lunch service. As a reminder, lunch orders are due the Wednesday before the week of service. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank You

Yesterday I sent a brief note to 5th-8th parents with a request to keep an eye on a few dress code trends.  I just wanted to say “thank you” for your support.  I observed some changes today.

Traffic Notes

We received notification from the county about a number of cars making a left onto One from Papa between 7:45-8:15.  Please note that the preferred entry point is from Wakea during these morning times.

Lastly, we made a few contacts about neighboring cars parking parallel to One St. during after school pickup.  Hopefully this will alleviate the issue.

Church/School Connection

Movie Night #2 - December 6th The first movie night was a great success.  Please note this on your calendar for next month.  We will have an RSVP for you next week.

Foundations of Faith - Pastor Hosch is looking to start an adult information class after the New Year.  If you are interested in learning more about Emmanuel Lutheran, finding a church home, (or just Lutheranism in general).  Please contact him pastor@elcs-maui.org.

Blessing Boxes - A Note from Mrs. Wilson (repeat from last week) - Our 2nd quarter offerings will support this mission.

Be safe while you trick or treat, and have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. Rempfer
