Aloha ELS ‘Ohana,
Weekly Recap
In Preschool I saw students listening to stories and playing quietly during center time. Kindergarteners were practicing foundational handwriting, focusing on the letter 'c' and its stroke similarity to 'a' for future fluency. 1st Graders were writing personal narratives from the Christmas break in morning journals. 2nd Graders worked on narrative structure (sequencing beginning, middle, end) while writing creative "winter" stories. 3rd Graders were doing some vocabulary previews for an upcoming story. 4th Graders worked on an EdPuzzle assignment focusing on main ideas and supporting details. During History they learned about the women’s suffrage movement. 5th Graders practiced multiplication facts for speed/accuracy. Like 4th grade they worked on constructing paragraphs with clear topics and support sentences.
6th Grade Math is moving into introductory geometry and algebra, specifically practicing graphing coordinates on the Cartesian plane. 7th Graders learned about the various hydrocarbons that exist in nature and how hydrogen and carbon easily bond together. 8th graders discussed some of post high school degrees that are available (trade, associate's, bachelor's, master's, doctoral) depending on what career paths they might take.
