Principals Weekly Letter

November 8th, 2024

This week at ELS

I was able to help out at Pre+ this week and see some preschoolers work on art projects.  The theme was Thanksgiving.  In Kindergarten I saw some centers work with Handwriting practice.  They are really getting good at writing their names.  In 1st grade students used mirrors and pictures to see what their mouths should look like while making sounds.  Did you know that you cannot make that “ng” sound while plugging your nose?  How many of you just tried it?  HA!  2nd graders worked on subtracting from 13.  3rd graders are on a field trip to the Ocean Center as I write this letter.  7th and 8th grade also had a chance to go to the west side and learn about native snails that are very rare and help plant life.  6th graders were adding and subtracting with mixed numbers.  Those problems always require a lot of steps.  4th graders were also working with fractions and showed great improvement with reading comprehension!  5th graders were absolutely silent during DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time.  They are in the middle of reading a class novel together.  It was another busy week at ELS!
