Principal's Weekly Letter

February 7th, 2025

This week at ELS

With a little bit of a washout last week, Spirit Week rolled into February.  Middle Schoolers competed against each other in a variety of ways, culminating in the 5th Annual Lip Sync Battle.  For the 5th year in a row, the 8th grade won the Spirit Week Championship.  I assure you that there is no bias among judges. ;)  We also honored our January Students of the Month.  Check out the website and social media for some great photos.  4th graders presented some of their own work as well as some classic poems as the final part of their poetry unit.  Thank you to all the parents who came to support their children this week.  On Wednesday we closed with the raffle drawing and students walked away with some great prizes while Ms. Bradshaw walked away covered in slime.  Friday closed with the Ram Bowl.  The Chiefs won in an OT thriller, we’ll see if the real Chiefs follow suit.  Next week, we will get back into the regular rhythm and routine of a regular school week. Thanks to who made Spirit Week 2025 another huge success!  We’ve got Spirit, yes we do, we’ve got Spirit, how ‘bout you! 🙂

Calendar Dates

February 17th - No School - Presidents Day

February 20th - Open House 5:30-7:00

Prior to COVID, Emmanuel Lutheran held an annual Open House evening.  Dinner was provided, new families had a chance to see classrooms, and some current parents shared about their experience at ELS.  This evening was for all new families but most specifically geared toward families interested in joining our kindergarten.  For the past two years, we had a simple informal Open House.  This year we would like to return to something that was very successful in the past.  How can you help?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  Quite simply, please share this with others.  You can share a social media post, give a flyer, or just tell someone you know.  When families RSVP for the evening, ask them to list you as a referral and we will send you a “Thank you” with a gift certificate.  Please see the flyer below or click here for some more information about the evening.  The QR code provides a google form that can be used to RSVP.

February 21st - 5th Annual Fun Run

We are halfway there!    With nearly 40% participation we have just reached the $25,000 mark!  With 100% participation, we will be able to reach our school goal of $50,000.00.  Funds this year will help update some of our classroom furniture. New desks and tables are costly (especially shipping to Maui).  We are always exploring ways to improve our field.  With wear and tear from daily use by over 200 students the sod installed in 2023 has not held up.  Field turf would help keep our campus looking brighter and less muddy.  That said, the cost is significant.  With your help we can make some great improvements to our campus.

Donations can be made online to your child's page.  They will also be collected in the office and credited to the corresponding student account.  Prizes will be distributed each Friday.  MAHALO for a great start this week!  School will dismiss at 1:30 on the 21st.  After school care will not be available.

Morning Drop Off

The dirt being tracked into the classroom the past few weeks is becoming a little bit of a problem.  Some of this is simply unavoidable from recess and PE.  Please try to use the sidewalks in the morning when the field is wet/damp.  In addition, if K-2 students can use the ramp I think we can minimize a little field traffic first thing in the AM.  I will monitor for a few weeks.  It may not solve the problem, but I feel like we need to try something.  Thanks for your help.

Have a restful weekend!
