Aloha ELS Families,
Just a reminder that tomorrow, August 15th there are NO CLASSES.
Week 3 Highlights
I am starting to learn new preschool names along with some familiar faces. Kindergarteners were reading Eric Carle books and doing some creative illustrations. I saw 1st graders having a "Body, Brain Break," in between lessons. In 2nd and 3rd grade I saw students working on vocabulary words and even having their first spelling test! 4th graders practiced long division, while 5th graders studied place value with money. 6th graders were learning about the makeup of the crust, mantle and core of the Earth. 7th graders began their first novel studies, and 8th reviewed all the functions of organelles in plant and animal cells.
Harm to Student Registry.
Almost there… 186(216 with staff) responses to the Harm to Student Registry. We will stop sending reminders once we reach 300 responses. The easiest way for ELS to satisfy the state requirement is for all parents/guardians (even grandparents, aunties, uncles) who might be on campus for any reason to enter their name and birthday into this Google Form. Feel free to share for a family member (click here) and we can quickly add their name to the registry.
Drop Off/Pick Up
I feel that we have settled into a pretty good rhythm in Week 2. Please remember that in the afternoon the driveway will be for preschool families only from 2:15 PM - 2:35 PM. K-8 dismissal will begin at 2:45 PM. You may pull in as soon as the gates are opened.
Calendar Dates
August 15th - No School - Statehood Day
August 22nd - Picture Day - Picture packets will be sent home on Wednesday, August 20th.
August 22nd - Pāʻina Night - 5:30-7:00 PM -
Last year I requested A-K bring - “Side Dish/Appetize/Dessert” and L-Z “Main Dish” so this year let’s switch. A-K- “Main Dish” and L-Z “Side Dish/Appetizer/Dessert. (Not that I will be checking, just trying to get a good spread)
Utensils and Bottled Water Provided
Brings chairs and blankets
I haven’t looked at the forecast but if the weather takes a turn, we will simply move to the following Friday.
Come talk story and spend some time getting to know the ELS Ohana.
August 18th-29th - MAP Testing Session #1
September 1st - No School - Labor Day
September 21st - 5th-8th Grade Sunday
All students at ELS are part of a choir. We invite students and families to join us for worship services when selected choirs are singing.
Quarter 1 - 5th-8th (September 21 and 28)
We are splitting the 5-8 choir since we have 90+ students
Mrs. Fletcher will reach out and you can select a Sunday at your convenience.
Quarter 2 - 3rd and 4th (November 16th)
Quarter 3 - Preschool (March 1st)
Quarter 4 - Keiki (K-2) Chorus - (April 19th)
We do not wish or intend to make this “mandatory”. We understand that many of you are active in your own congregations and sometimes Children’s Sunday at Emmanuel may have conflict. We would very much appreciate families making an effort to attend. Choir directors work very hard to prepare songs and practice during the school week. In addition, it is a nice way to say “thank you” to members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and their continued support of our school.
E+ Update
E+ is up and running. Just a reminder that the daily rates are $9/day ($13 on Wednesday and 1:30 dismissals). Email Mrs. Davenport if you have any E+ related questions. Remember that while it’s hot, Wednesday is water play! Pack waterplay clothes and a towel if your child wants to participate.
Volleyball!!
It was great to see our first volleyball practice of the season on Tuesday. Ms. Jordynn and Mrs. Lewis have lots of kids participating this year. Here’s to a great season!
Hoping your students enjoy their 3-day weekend!
God’s Blessings,
Mr. Rempfer
