Principal's Weekly Letter - Aug. 8th

Updated: Aug 14, 2025

August 8th

Aloha ELS Families,

Week 1 - We’re off to a Great Start

This week, new students and returning 4-year-olds were welcomed to PreSchool. Kindergarteners created mealtime books and practiced writing their names. First graders were also writing and busy getting their new homework folders ready with Mrs. Sjostrand. In second grade, students enjoyed a word scavenger hunt and practiced writing about their first-day feelings. Third graders had their first PE class of the new year and worked on vocabulary matching. Fourth graders engaged in a writing assignment titled "Understanding Myself" and participated in collaborative writing. Fifth graders spent time on math flashcards, silent reading, and reviewing the handbook. Middle school students returned to find class upgrades, including new lockers, desks, chairs, and TVs, and jumped into week 1 journals, math and science review, and team-building activities.

Harm to Student Registry

We made significant progress in week 1 with 154 (184 with staff) responses to the Harm to Student Registry. We will stop sending reminders once we reach 300 responses. The easiest way for ELS to satisfy the state requirement is for all parents/guardians who might be on campus for any reason to enter their name and birthday into this Google Form. (click here)

Drop-Off Procedures:

Drop-off procedures are running smoothly. Thank you for utilizing the sidewalks and pulling forward to keep the line moving efficiently.

Pick-Up Procedures:

We are actively learning which students belong to which vehicles and anticipate having this process fully squared away by the end of next week. Please remember that, starting Monday, PreSchool dismissal will have parking lot priority between 2:15-2:35 PM. Once Mrs. Lewis removes the cones, grade school cars can begin lining up. Kindly pull all the way past the tree by the BLUE BENCH, and we will send your child directly to your vehicle!

E+/EDO: Sign up through FACTS or contact Mrs. Davenport.

Both EDO and EPLUS extended day programs will be available starting on Day 1. EDO costs $4 per day, and EPLUS costs $9 per day ($13 on short days).

Volunteers, Visitors, and Check In:

A reminder that all volunteers and visitors need to check in at the office before heading to classes. Additionally, if you are checking a student in late or out early, you can do so either at the office or through the SchoolPass app. For your first check-in, please provide your driver's license. You will then receive a code for any subsequent visits that can be used for the remainder of the year.
