This week I am sending a Tuesday letter! After our beautiful May Day performances on Friday, I didn’t sit down and put together a weekly summary so I figured I would start this week with a Tuesday Letter.
Once again, I would like to extend gratitude to all our staff and volunteers who helped to make our May Day such a wonderful day. The culmination of all the hard work truly paid off. The performances were excellent. The music was great. I found myself getting emotional thinking about our graduates and this tradition at our school means so much to so many.
I could tell you about all the work that took place in the classrooms last week but the real highlight of the week was May Day 🙂!
Teacher Appreciation Week
This morning the teachers were greeted with some awesome decorations as well as kind words. Thanks to all the volunteers who worked over the weekend to honor our staff. This is a special week for teachers/staff and I am grateful for all the Aloha our ELS family has shown to them. ❤️

Staff Update
I am pleased to inform you that Ms. Melissah Shishido will be teaching 4th Grade next year. Ms. Shishido has worked for numerous schools and organizations throughout her career. We are excited to have her at Emmanuel Lutheran.
Melissah Shishido
Melissah "Mish" Shishido has had an extensive career in education and community advocacy in Hawaii. With over 26 years of teaching experience, she has dedicated her life to nurturing young minds and strengthening her community.
In the wake of the devastating August 2023 Lahaina wildfires, Shishido stepped into a crucial role as Executive Assistant to Archie Kalepa, emerging as a vital force in coordinating relief efforts. During the immediate aftermath of the disaster, she utilized her organizational skills and deep community connections to help manage the distribution of essential supplies to survivors.
Her educational career spans more than two and a half decades, during which she has distinguished herself not only as a classroom teacher but also as a leader in professional development for fellow educators. Her commitment to education extends beyond traditional classroom boundaries, as she actively works to train student leaders, fostering the next generation of community advocates. She is excited to continue her ELS career working with 4th grade students and families.
