February 5th, 2026 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Weekly Recap A quick shout out to our Student Council (Evie Nakamura, Sophia Fletcher, Adam Dahlgren, Rylee Ortogero, Keala Withers and Ellyn Tamparong) they were also quite instrumental in the planning of Field Day and I left them off the list last week. Their efforts as a Student Council now shift to completing the Yearbook. Thank you to our Student Council! This week, I enjoyed visiting various classrooms and observing our students engaged in learning. Preschool students heard about the upcoming FUN RUN and the exciting prizes they can win. Kindergarten was busy with center activities, balancing work and play. I was impressed by the beautiful handwriting I saw as they practiced writing the numbers 17 and 18. First graders were hard at work, with some excelling in Accelerated Reader while others completed their spelling and math assignments. Second graders showed their creativity during a unique art assignment. Third graders demonstrated careful reading skills, working to extract essential information from story problems. Fourth graders explored the celestial world, studying the different phases of the moon. Fifth graders participated in a spirited Blooket competition. Sixth graders continued their detailed research assignments on the planets. Seventh graders engaged in imaginative poetry writing. Eighth graders delved into history, studying the critical events that led up to WWI. January 23rd, 2026 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Re-Enrollment Mrs. Cambra’s inbox has been busy. Thank you for taking time to Re-Enroll for the 2026-2027 school year. Financial Aid applications are also available through FACTS. Weekly Recap It took me a minute to sit down and work on a Friday letter. We had a little bit of a rain shower this morning that took us by surprise. Thank you for your patience while the kids made their way through our “pond” this morning. I am sure you will have some wet shoes and smelly socks to deal with after school but we were still able to pull off a relatively normal day all things considered. Just a few observations from the week: PS - It was great to see 3rd graders doing some buddy reading with PK students. I also saw some great designs and patterns from students using colorful shapes. K - It must be getting close to the 100th day of school! I saw a few students bringing their representations of 100 in some very creative ways. 1st - I stopped in 1st grade just before lunch and was able to hear one of their beautiful echo prayers. 2nd - I heard some loud voices on the playground and wondered what was going on (I even asked to quiet down) but I learned that they were just being scientific and found a place on the lower playground that echos! 3rd Graders were busy with LA stations and very patient as Mr. Smith and I had to clean up a few leaky places. 4th graders were also busy with LA and long division (and also very helpful as Mrs. Wilson learned the ropes). 5th graders were hard at work during math working decimal numbers. Middle Schoolers had some new topics in Enrichment practicing their typing skills and investing $10,000 (Rempfer Bucks) in various stocks. We’ll see whose investments make the most interest in the next few months. Support Athletics Click on the link to check out some gear available for purchase! December 19th, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord" - Luke 2:11 First off, I would like to say thank you once again for the tremendous support of our Christmas Concert last Friday. We really filled the church and the students did a great job! Every song was a great reminder of the “gift” we celebrate this season. Weekly Recap The excitement was pretty evident this morning as soon as kids jumped out of their cars. There were treats, presents, and pajamas. The final day before Christmas is always filled with lots of fun Christmas activities. Just a quick reminder that we dismiss at 1:30 (11:15-11:30 for preschool) with no after school care. Although the excitement of Christmas was evident, we also did a little work in the classroom this week. Preschoolers got to enjoy some time in the “snow”... Mrs. Lewis made a wonderful Amazon purchase. Kindergarteners learned how God protected Jesus from King Herod and practiced their memory verse. 1st Graders were great listeners and answered questions from special visitors as they prep for their visit to the Nature Center. 2nd Graders were doing a little writing about a story they read together. 3rd Graders practiced measured conversation during math time. 4th Graders learned about the Civil Rights movement and how segregation was unjust. 5th Grade worked together to complete their Tuesday portion of 5-a-day. 6th Grade and 7th Grade helped out at morning drop off on Thursday as a group of boys brought Christmas cheer by singing Christmas carols as students arrived on campus. They also took their final Science tests of the semester. 8th Grade students in Algebra and Algebra II solved polynomial equations and used systems to solve linear equations. Craft Fair Tomorrow from 9-2 a local organization is using our campus to host a Christmas Craft Fair. There will be a host of vendors. It looks like it will be a great event! Come check it out. Accreditation Emmanuel Lutheran School is currently engaged in the accreditation process. In June 2019, ELS achieved accreditation through WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). Following this, in March 2022, the requirements for the Mid-Cycle accreditation process were successfully fulfilled. At that time, a decision was made to pursue accreditation through HAIS (Hawaii Association of Independent Schools). This comprehensive accreditation encompasses full accreditation from WASC, NLSA (National Lutheran School Accreditation), and HAIS, a combination we refer to as the "trifecta." We successfully completed our initial accreditation in March 2025. The full site visit for this three-fold accreditation is scheduled for March 2027. As part of this process, faculty members have been working diligently to respond to inquiries, identify areas for enhancement, and document institutional strengths. Furthermore, the school is undergoing a complete financial audit and actively soliciting input from all stakeholders. A detailed survey will be distributed to ELS families in late January. We strongly encourage all recipients to take the time to provide their feedback, as it is crucial to our ongoing efforts to maintain the highest standard of accreditation. Construction on Campus Over the break, the first phase of the new sportcourt will begin. For a few months, it will just look like a bland slab of pavement. However, over Spring Break (Phase 2) the surfacing, striping, and painting will take place. We will have lines for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball. Phase 3 will take place over the summer when the remaining 3rd of the field will become turf. This project is long overdue and we’ve explored lots of options. ALL FUN RUN money will go towards this project . We will set our goal pretty high and see how close we can get! Be on the lookout for the FUN RUN website in early February. December 12th, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Christmas Concert tonight - 6:00PM - St. Anthony Catholic Church. Preschool and concert band students please arrive by 5:30. All other students should arrive by 5:45. We will get kids in their places and open the door for parents at 5:50. Please have your child wear "nice clothes" to the concert. Christmas colors are encouraged, but not required. No t-shirts. Boys should wear long pants if possible. No crocs. Athletic or dress shoes or sandals are fine. No hats, or any hair accessories that stick out from the head. No lei should be worn during the concert. Students should not have their cell phones or have gum. :) Weekly Recap Preschool - Our youngest learners enjoyed Center Play this week. A highlight of their morning was building cubes with special interlocking blocks. This activity allowed them to practice fine motor skills and teamwork. Kindergarten - When I stopped in this week they were recognizing the special person of the week. This tradition is encouraging and gives each classmate a chance to shine as well as bring special treats for the class. 1st - 4th Grade This week all of these classes were productively engaged in various centers. I observed a high level of concentration across the room as students worked on writing journals, IXL math practice, spelling words and silent reading. 5th Grade - In Language Arts, the 5th graders successfully worked on a challenging grammatical concept: they accurately identified the object of a preposition in various sentences. 6th Grade - The 6th graders began prepping for a history test over ancient Rome. Their activities included reviewing key figures, timelines, and significant historical events that shaped the Roman Empire. 7th Grade - The 7th graders engaged with classic literature by answering comprehension and analysis questions about a short story titled "The Gift of the Magi". This exercise required them to interpret themes and analyze characters. 8th Grade - And finally, the 8th graders were deeply involved in a cross-curricular assignment, diligently working on an essay for Science. This project tasked them to examine scientific evidence and present their case in a clear, persuasive, and well-structured argument, blending their research skills with content knowledge. December 5th, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Weekly Recap It was good to get back into the swing of things this week. I pray that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. In preschool this week, they had a “snowball” match with 5th graders. I was also able to spend a little time in Mrs. Decoite’s class building houses and railroad tracks. In kindergarten, I seem to pop in during snack a LOT! Today I went down and it was recess, the sandbox was a huge hit. I know in the classroom they demonstrated their knowledge of letters and sounds. They are all the way to Letter Z. I’ve even seen early reading going on! Well DONE! 1st graders exhibited tremendous reading comprehension skills, finding and underlying answers to questions in text. 2nd graders were showing their knowledge of nouns, verbs, and adjectives as they filled in a silly story with descriptive words. 3rd graders sang beautifully as they prepared for our concert next week. 4th graders identified the past, present and future tense of verbs as well recognizing the author's purpose in short stories. 5th graders investigated how the diameter of a circle is related to the perimeter. 6th graders finished up science and math work during some study hall time. 7th graders graphed linear equations and inequalities. 8th graders were taking notes on Chapter 19 in History and getting ready for their next test. SOTM Congratulations to our Students of the Month for October/November! Since we had breaks in both October and November, we combined these two months. The character trait we focused on was Laulima (Cooperation). The recipients of this honor were Trenton Fukagawa, Millie Cortez, Wyatt Cambra, Pierce Ramos, Alex Brink, Evie Nakamura, Hannah Kondo, `Olukai Paet, Jaxon Silva, and Caleb Cambra. Well DONE! Family Opportunity We will host a guest speaker on campus tomorrow morning at 10 AM. This presentation is intended for families navigating issues of grief and loss. Please do not call Simply Local to place your orders for January. God’s Blessings, Mr. Rempfer
