November 21, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, REMINDER! K-8 students will dismiss at 1:30 today with no after school care. Students in Preschool will come to school for Friendsgiving with their special guests and leave with them at the conclusion of the festivities. Weekly Recap First off, thank you to all the 3rd and 4th families who joined us for worship this past Sunday. The church reached maximum capacity. We only have room for 150 chairs and 170 were in attendance! It was certainly standing room only. The kids sang beautifully and represented our school in an impressive manner. Well done! This week was filled with all sorts of activities. Preschool is celebrating their annual “Friendsgiving”. Students get to enjoy a feast with families and friends. Kindergarteners had a week of activities with field trips and their Makahiki celebration. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th braved the weather and walked to MACC to see a beautiful cultural singing performance. 4th graders also finished a major book project and delivered Ulu meals to other classes. Who knew Ulu animal crackers would be so delicious. 5th graders celebrated Thanksgiving with a special meal while 6th, 7th, and 8th graders filled their blessings boxes in the annual food drive competition. We have so much to be grateful for here at ELS, so many reasons to “give thanks”. ELS TRAVEL TEAM UPDATE We have a group of committed travelers ready for the next Japan Trip. November 14, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Weekly Recap Preschoolers were enjoying some play time, getting ready for a bear hunt, and practicing their counting skills. Kindergarten - I was able to snap a picture with some friends wearing aloha attire. I also heard some students reading out loud (very impressive). They were able to tell me when to use “a” and “an” in a sentence. Great work! 1st Grade - Students were carefully working in the phonics workbook and had just finished a discussion about identifying the main topic in a story. 2nd graders were finishing up a test on a story they had just read. Some students were also working on an activity where they had to identify things they do well on. 3rd Graders were carefully practicing writing letters in cursive. Handwriting is still important! 4th graders finished up some reading in their current novel and were doing a Kahoot activity to test their comprehension. 5th Graders were correcting their math lesson and moving on to the next. 6th Grade - Learned about the difference between gross income and net income and realized that bills take up a good chunk of your paycheck. 7th Graders - helped greet students and families with some encouraging words this morning. Hopefully you were able to read their kind words this morning. 8th Graders - Were prepping for a History Test while reviewing their study guide together. Volleyball Season Ends The volleyball teams fought hard last Saturday but the tournament set-up only allowed for one game (not even 3 sets). We weren’t able to rally back and the season came to a close. Thank you to all who participated (over 25 students) and a special thank you to Ms. Jordynn and Mrs. Lewis for coaching. October 31st, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Weekly Recap Believe it or not, this was our 1st 5 day week in the month of October. I can’t believe it will be November when we return on Monday. This week I stopped into all the classrooms for a weekly check in. In preschool, I got a few high fives and hugs at snack time. In kindergarten I saw students being great listeners with volunteers in class for centers. 1st graders were identifying things that come in pairs. 2nd graders were fully focused while they worked on Prodigy Math. 3rd graders were not in the room when I stopped by because they were all working hard in PE. 4th graders were demonstrating mastery with their times tables. 5th graders were doing my favorite task from elementary school, diagraming compound sentences. 6th graders explained the difference between temperature and thermal energy. 7th graders were taking their Chapter 4 math tests. Last but not least, 8th graders were feverishly writing essays for their Chapter 17 History Test. Plant Sale Shout Out The Plant Sale (along with the entire Fall Festival) was a great success. Rhonda wanted to give a special shout out to those who spent time bringing that together. We will have a link for purchasing the left over Fall Wreaths next week. Student Council Emmanuel will have a student council for the 1st time. The following students were selected based on their application essays. The Student Council will meet bi-monthly beginning in November. Thank you to Ms. Jordynn and Mr. Jurchen for helping to lead this new organization. President - Evie Nakamura Vice President - Adam Dahlgren Secretary - Sophia Fletcher 7th Representative - Rylee Ortogero 6th Grade Representatives - Keala Withers and Ellyn Tamparong Lunches Starting in the month of November, absolutely no late lunch orders will be accepted. We have run into multiple issues when lunch orders have been called in the night before and even the day of service. We would like to be more mindful of the time and effort Simply Local puts into our daily lunch service. As a reminder, lunch orders are due the Wednesday before the week of service. Thank you for your understanding. Calendar Items October 31st - Dippin Dots 2 pm I know this is an exciting day for kids but it will be a relatively normal school day with no costumes allowed. October 27th, 2025 Aloha ELS ‘Ohana, Fall Festival For some reason I didn’t send a Friday letter last week…. It must have had something to do with Friday being FALL FESTIVAL!! Last week was a great week at school with lots of wonderful things going on in the classrooms but the culmination of the week was (without a doubt) the festivities on Friday night! I cannot thank you enough for the support that was provided to bring everything together. It all starts with Ms. Omura and the planning that takes place behind the scenes. After that the entire staff pitches to get the classrooms rearranged and campus set up. In addition to that the more than 60 volunteers that signed up for shifts and helped transform our campus into the Fall Festival setting and back in less than 24 hours. We had over 900 people on campus throughout the day and were able to raise funds to support athletics, field trips, and classroom needs! We thank the entire ELS ‘Ohana for their support of the annual community event! Calendar Items October 31st - Dippin Dots 2 pm I know this is an exciting day for kids but it will be a relatively normal school with no costumes allowed.
