Aloha ELS Families, Just a reminder that tomorrow, August 15th there are NO CLASSES. Week 3 Highlights I am starting to learn new preschool names along with some familiar faces. Kindergarteners were reading Eric Carle books and doing some creative illustrations. I saw 1st graders having a "Body, Brain Break," in between lessons. In 2nd and 3rd grade I saw students working on vocabulary words and even having their first spelling test! 4th graders practiced long division, while 5th graders studied place value with money. 6th graders were learning about the makeup of the crust, mantle and core of the Earth. 7th graders began their first novel studies, and 8th reviewed all the functions of organelles in plant and animal cells. Harm to Student Registry. Almost there… 186(216 with staff) responses to the Harm to Student Registry. We will stop sending reminders once we reach 300 responses . The easiest way for ELS to satisfy the state requirement is for all parents/guardians (even grandparents, aunties, uncles) who might be on campus for any reason to enter their name and birthday into this Google Form. Feel free to share for a family member ( click here ) and we can quickly add their name to the registry. Drop Off/Pick Up I feel that we have settled into a pretty good rhythm in Week 2. Please remember that in the afternoon the driveway will be for preschool families only from 2:15 PM - 2:35 PM. K-8 dismissal will begin at 2:45 PM. You may pull in as soon as the gates are opened. Calendar Dates August 15th - No School - Statehood Day August 22nd - Picture Day - Picture packets will be sent home on Wednesday, August 20th. August 22nd - Pāʻina Night - 5:30-7:00 PM - Last year I requested A-K bring - “Side Dish/Appetize/Dessert” and L-Z “Main Dish” so this year let’s switch. A-K- “Main Dish” and L-Z “Side Dish/Appetizer/Dessert. (Not that I will be checking, just trying to get a good spread) Utensils and Bottled Water Provided Brings chairs and blankets I haven’t looked at the forecast but if the weather takes a turn, we will simply move to the following Friday. Come talk story and spend some time getting to know the ELS Ohana. August 18th-29th - MAP Testing Session #1 September 1st - No School - Labor Day September 21st - 5th-8th Grade Sunday All students at ELS are part of a choir. We invite students and families to join us for worship services when selected choirs are singing. Quarter 1 - 5th-8th (September 21 and 28) We are splitting the 5-8 choir since we have 90+ students Mrs. Fletcher will reach out and you can select a Sunday at your convenience. Quarter 2 - 3rd and 4th (November 16th) Quarter 3 - Preschool (March 1st) Quarter 4 - Keiki (K-2) Chorus - (April 19th) We do not wish or intend to make this “mandatory”. We understand that many of you are active in your own congregations and sometimes Children’s Sunday at Emmanuel may have conflict. We would very much appreciate families making an effort to attend. Choir directors work very hard to prepare songs and practice during the school week. In addition, it is a nice way to say “thank you” to members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and their continued support of our school. E+ Update E+ is up and running. Just a reminder that the daily rates are $9/day ($13 on Wednesday and 1:30 dismissals). Email Mrs. Davenport if you have any E+ related questions. Remember that while it’s hot, Wednesday is water play! Pack waterplay clothes and a towel if your child wants to participate. Volleyball!! It was great to see our first volleyball practice of the season on Tuesday. Ms. Jordynn and Mrs. Lewis have lots of kids participating this year. Here’s to a great season! Hoping your students enjoy their 3-day weekend! God’s Blessings, Mr. Rempfer

August 8th Aloha ELS Families, Week 1 - We’re off to a Great Start This week, new students and returning 4-year-olds were welcomed to PreSchool . Kindergarteners created mealtime books and practiced writing their names. First graders were also writing and busy getting their new homework folders ready with Mrs. Sjostrand. In second grade , students enjoyed a word scavenger hunt and practiced writing about their first-day feelings. Third graders had their first PE class of the new year and worked on vocabulary matching. Fourth graders engaged in a writing assignment titled "Understanding Myself" and participated in collaborative writing. Please remember that, starting Monday, PreSchool dismissal will have parking lot priority between 2:15-2:35 PM. Once Mrs. Lewis removes the cones, grade school cars can begin lining up. Kindly pull all the way past the tree by the BLUE BENCH, and we will send your child directly to your vehicle! E+/EDO: Sign up through FACTS or contact Mrs. Davenport. August 1st, 2025 Aloha ELS Families, This week has been busy! Teachers are feverishly preparing for a new school year. Organizing, reorganizing, painting, constructing, and planning were the themes for the week. We are ready for the first day of school! In case you missed it, I will provide a summary of the topics of Back to School Night . Drop-Off Procedures: Between 7:45 AM and 8:15 AM you must enter from One Street (from Wakea). School starts at 8 AM. All Students arriving before 7:35 AM should report to EDO. Teachers will open their classrooms at 7:40 AM. We ask that 3rd-5th, and 8th grade students enter on the sidewalk nearest the green covered fence. K-2nd graders should use the ramp that goes downstairs. 6th and 7th grade students can head to the modulars. We are trying to minimize walking across the field in the morning. If you need to park, please do not use the drop-off line. Parents are welcome to walk children to class for the first few weeks, but we encourage goodbyes on the upper level as we get into our morning routines. Pick-Up Procedures: You must enter from One Street (from Wakea) 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Preschool pick-up is first, from 2:15 PM to 2:35 PM. Cones will prevent cars from waiting by the dumpster during this time. Grade school cars can enter once the cones are removed. K-5th graders should line up in the driveway, five cars deep. We will direct your child to the correct car, and students must enter on the passenger side. The line moves much faster if drivers remain in their vehicles. Middle school drivers can pass through the line or park further down One Street, as middle school students will be picked up at the modulars. Siblings of middle school students may also go to the modulars for pick-up. Please drive slowly and carefully, as it's congested from 2:35 PM to 2:55 PM. Lunch Program: We are finalizing vendors for My Hot Lunch Box. Please plan for students to bring their own lunch for the month of August. E+/EDO: Both EDO and EPLUS will be available starting on Day 1. EDO costs $4/day, and EPLUS costs $9/day ($13 on short days). Handbook: There are no major changes to the handbook, with simplifications made to the dress code. The Handbook can be found on the website or by clicking this link . Volunteers and Visitors: Due to new state laws and requirements, we are implementing more secure procedures by using a new program called Schoolpass. Visit our website for more information about Schoolpass . Visitors will need to check in at the office with a driver's license for a quick scan (which will provide a code for future visits) and receive a badge. You can download the Schoolpass app to check in and out from your phone. Additionally, anyone who may work in a classroom, go on a field trip, or volunteer will need to complete a Google Form ( click here ) for a quick check against the Harm to Student Registry, providing their name and birthday. Please provide name and birthday for anyone (aunty, uncle, grandparents) who may take part in school activities involving your keiki. We will do one massive import and check. Just a friendly reminder that kindergarten classes will dismiss at 11:30 AM on Monday. Grades 1-8 will dismiss at 1:30 PM. E+ is available. We look forward to a successful school year! Thanks to Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Kahalewai, Ms. Rebecca, Ms. Kaelyn, Ms. Megan, and Ms. Lexi for their time this summer. Summer Camp was another success! And congratulations to Mrs. Kahalewai on the birth of baby Samuel on July 20th, weighing 8 lbs 6 oz! Important Dates for the Upcoming School Year! Please mark your calendars with these important dates as we prepare for the 2025-2026 school year: Teachers Report Back: Monday, July 28th Back to School Night: Wednesday, July 30th: 5:30 PM - Preschool Thursday, July 31st: Kindergarten - 8th Grade Group 1 (Last Names A-K): 5:30 PM Group 2 (Last Names L-Z): 6:15 PM We will begin as a whole group in the church before dispersing to classrooms. Preschool Visit Day: Wednesday, August 6th First Day of Preschool Classes: Thursday, August 7th Preschool will also have an 11:15- 11:30 AM dismissal on their first TWO days. Schoolpass Information New legislation requires us to run background checks on volunteers and visitors. To properly comply, we have purchased SCHOOLPASS. This software will help us update procedures for both students and volunteers. Parents/Guardians will be able to check your students in or out digitally using the SchoolPass Mobile App. If you are running late or picking up early, this process will be tracked more efficiently. We will provide more information on SchoolPass features for parents in the coming weeks. In addition, all volunteers/visitors will need to check in at the office using SchoolPass. This involves a quick scan of your driver's license and provides a printed name badge. The state is creating a database called the Harm to Students Registry, which will be implemented by all schools over the next school year. We are simply staying ahead of the curve. Hot Lunch Update Please plan on packing lunches for the month of August. We are still working out some contract details with our new vendor and securing commitments from local providers. We will work to offer these lunch options ASAP! Health Records Students entering Kindergarten and 7th grade have more responsibility when it comes to health records. Many families are missing needed paperwork. Please contact Mrs. Cambra ASAP if you are missing necessary documents. We will work with you if you are still waiting for documents or appointments, but PLEASE contact Mrs. Cambra so she can make note of arrangements. The Health Department will come to school and review our records. We simply want to ensure we are up to date. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces next week! Mr. Rempfer

May 23rd, 2025 Last week I failed to send a letter out on Friday. With the all lead up to Fine Arts Night I felt I had kind of bombarded you with emails. Let me just say “THANK YOU”! The turnout on Friday was incredible. The students performed beautifully. The singing was outstanding. The bands did a fantastic job in their closing performance for the year and the ukulele players really showed their stuff. The amount of food brought in was incredible, enough to feed an army of people (which it did). Thank you to everyone for the time and effort that was put in to create a beautiful evening. The 2nd Grade Market was also a huge success. I think each student just about sold out of their inventory. What a great learning experience. The support from parents and student customers was amazing. I hope this tradition will continue for years to come. The week was a blur as students finished up projects, assignments and presentations before we close the school year. On Wednesday we had our Preschool Celebration. It was wonderful to see their smiling faces, lovely singing, and proud families. The preschool team did a terrific job showcasing our youngest students and helping them feel special.
